Last weekend a group of us took on the Goldfields Track in northwest Victoria, Australia. Day 1, 13k in, a wayward stick took out 5 spokes in one area of the rear wheel. It was looking like a walk back to the station and 3 days riding cancelled, untill.... realising spokes only work in tension, we raided our bags and scraped together enough zip ties to make a couple of zip tie spokes. It lasted the entire rest of the trip! 3 days and 180k of rocky, technical Aussie bush single track on plastic zip tie spokes. What a result.
